The accident that took a person’s life happened on Saturday evening in Melnragė.

Around 7:07 p.m. In the Baltic Sea, not far from the central lifeguard station (at Audra Street), four teenagers – two girls and two boys – began to drown.

Although the wind had died down by then, swimming was prohibited. The waves of the sea were quite high, and strong currents pulled into it.

It is said that the quadruped, which waded shallowly along the shore, unexpectedly fell into the hole.

It was not only the lifeguards who were on duty on the beach who came to the aid of the young people, who were already walking towards the teenagers to ask them out of the water.

A middle-aged man resting on the beach was not indifferent either.

But at sea he was quickly abandoned by his forces. The man told the lifeguards who pulled the teenagers ashore about this in English. They shouted to him to stay afloat and assured him that they would soon return to help him.

“The rescuer was holding a teenager who had drunk water, whom he could not leave because he would have drowned,” the head of the Klaipėda rescuers, Aleksandras Siakki, assured “Vakaru Express”.

Three teenagers were rescued, one girl reached the shore by herself. After recovering from the shock, they hurried to disappear from the beach. However, the rescuers managed to find out that they are also Ukrainians.

Klaipėda county VPK has started a pre-trial investigation to determine the cause of death.

This rescue operation, where every second is precious, was almost interrupted by a drunken man who decided to bathe her right before. The rescuers had to not only discipline, but also restrain the person who used physical force against the rescuer.

He pushed the girl and then tried to hit her. The hooligan was disciplined by two nearby vacationers. The incident was reported to the police.

At the same time, when the fight for people’s lives was going on, a 12-year-old Ukrainian and his father, who rushed to save him, started drowning in almost the same place in Melnragė. They were helped to reach the shore by a vacationer from Ukraine who rushed to help and extended his hand in time.

According to A. Siakki, there are even three signs on this part of the beach in the port city, warning about the holes hidden under the water.

An almost similar accident happened in Melnrage at the very end of June. Two 12-13-year-old girls began to drown. They came to the beach (at Audra Street) to swim without adults.

At that time, the beach lifeguards had not yet started their work.

A man who was exercising by the sea rushed to save the drowning children. At that time, there was a storm in the sea, huge waves were rolling.

The girls were saved. But the 52-year-old man drowned.

This summer, two people drowned at Klaipėda beaches supervised by lifeguards and during their work. 26 drowning persons were rescued.

In Skendo and Šventoja, the lifeguards of the Palanga beaches also had a lot of work to do on Saturday. They saved five people.

In Šventoja, at the rescue post, 23- and 30-year-old drowning men were pulled from the sea. Both of them ended up in the hospital.

The three persons rescued in Palanga did not need medical help.

The rescuers did not hide their surprise that, despite all the disasters, there are quite a few brave people who want to face not only the waves, but also death.

The raised red flag, waves of more than three points, powerful currents and a ban on swimming do not impress them at all.

The lifeguards of the resort are no longer surprised by naive excuses that they want to swim in the Baltic Sea on the last day before going home.

According to Jonas Pirožniks, the head of the Palanga lifeguards, such people do not even think that such carelessness can become the last trip in their life.

According to the chief of the Palanga lifeguards, not a single person has yet drowned on the official beaches of the country’s most popular resort this year. Almost half a hundred drowning persons were rescued.
