An individual was apprehended on Monday following a stabbing incident in the heart of London. The attack left an 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman with injuries.
The incident occurred in Leicester Square, a central area known for its cinemas and theatres. The Metropolitan Police (Met) confirmed the arrest of a suspect and stated that no further suspects are being sought.
The victims’ identities remain undisclosed. Their condition is currently unknown. This incident follows another recent stabbing in Southport, northwest England, where three young girls were attacked with a knife.
“Officers are at the scene of a stabbing in Leicester Square. A man was arrested and is in custody,” a police statement read. ”We do not believe there are any other suspects.”
The London Ambulance Service reported receiving an alert about the stabbing before midday. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.
Recent years have witnessed an increase in knife-related incidents in London, particularly among young people. The perpetrator of the Southport attack has been identified as Axel Axel Rudakubana, an 18-year-old man of Rwandan descent. He also injured eight minors and two adults.
Following this case, far-right anti-immigration groups rioted in response to misinformation circulating online, claiming that Rudakubana was an asylum seeker.
