We do not know much about the circumstances of the terrible accident which occurred this Thursday, late in the morning, at Le Bourget, on the ex-RN2 (avenue de la Division-Leclerc), near the Poste crossroads. . “A person in a wheelchair died after being hit by a top truck,” relates the mayor, Jean-Baptiste Borsali (DVD). He specifies that he spoke at the beginning of the afternoon with the prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis, to alert him to “the dangerousness and the problem of heavy goods vehicles crossing the commune, because this time, we comes to a tragedy and it’s one drama too many,” he reacts, recalling that the subject has been regularly brought up by the municipality “for at least twenty years”.

This Thursday, at the beginning of the evening, the identity of the victim – it is a man – was not specified to us. The wheelchair belonged to the Bourget clinic, a post-acute care and rehabilitation establishment, which could suggest that the victim was a patient. But, nothing in this sense has been confirmed at the moment. The firefighters and emergency services who intervened were in any case unable to save this person.

Already an accident a year ago

Jean-Baptiste Borsali had already requested a ban on the crossing of trucks in transit, a year ago, following a previous accident involving a truck whose driver had overturned and injured two children, in an adjacent street. The elected official also points to the redevelopment work on the former RN2 and the worsening traffic jams, in the context of the 2024 Olympics, to reinforce the urgency of the situation. “It’s dangerous for the workers who are repairing Avenue de la Division-Leclerc,” he adds. His request to the State was unsuccessful, except… temporarily this year, during the week of the Paris Air Show, in June 2023.

Even if the work progresses, given the amount of traffic, there will still be a way to go before we can transform the current four lanes, into which 30,000 vehicles rush every day, into an Olympic boulevard with calm traffic. Contacted by us, neither the Paris police headquarters nor the Bobigny public prosecutor’s office responded to our questions, as to the circumstances or the custody (or not) of the driver of the heavy goods vehicle.
