A Singaporean man has been accused of trying to marry his wife by planting cannabis in his garden despite knowing that possession of the drug could make him face the death penalty. Tan Xianglong, 37, was sentenced by a local court to three years and 10 months in prison, according to the sentencing statement.
Separated for less than two years, the couple is in the process of divorce. The judge and his wife could not get along immediately because of the short duration of the marriage, according to court documents.

Xianglong Tan is angry with his wife because he thinks that she did not contribute enough money for the wedding. After consulting with attorneys, she learned that a divorce is possible “if both parties have a criminal record,” according to the court filing.
He first hired a private detective to collect evidence of his wife’s adultery, but there was no evidence. Then he wanted to stop his wife by putting cannabis in her car. He also boasted to his girlfriend that he had made a “perfect plan.”
