The exhausted man managed to walk to the village of Skaistgiriai.

Large forces

On Saturday afternoon, not only police officers, a dog handler with a dog, but also Public Security officers and representatives of the Rifle Association, as well as volunteers from the Lithuanian Red Cross organization, individual people and even hunters who know this forest very well contributed to the search for the missing man.

The Kėdainiai ATV four-wheeler club also joined the search on Monday. The men combed the woods and thickets on their powerful motorcycles until finally word reached them that the man himself had come out of the woods.

“8 p.m. 42 min. called from the police and reported that the mushroom picker left the forest by himself. The man wandered from Maleikoni near Tautvydas manor to Skaistgiris. Basically, we searched in those places.

If we had used the search a little earlier, I have no doubt that we would have found the person. Our search route was absolutely purposeful.

Everything was prepared: fields and ditches full of water were dug.

This person is a real lucky baby that he managed to get out on his own after all this time”, Marius Sakalauskas, the representative of the ATV club of Kėdainiai four-wheelers who rushed to help the police, summed up the search results.

Two friends

Let us remind you that two friends from Kaunas went to pick mushrooms on Saturday morning. After arriving in Kėdainiai district, the men left the car at Pavinkšniai village and went to the forest.

Unfortunately, only one man returned to the car in the evening. Another mushroom picker never came out of the forest. 4 p.m. 40 minutes The search for the missing 64-year-old JS has been announced.

The worst thing was that the person left his phone in the car after fearing that he would lose it in the forest. The search for the man was organized in the evening of the same day – a drone also took to the sky, four-wheelers drove through the woods, canine experts searched for the man with dogs, but it was not possible to find any traces of the man that day.

Complex searches

The search was complicated by the fact that this massif of forests is quite large – the forest of Kunionii is bordered by the forests of Svilii, Macgalii, Rugėnai, and Pernarava.

However, until the last minute, it was believed that if a man wandered somewhere, he should leave the forest, but there were worries that his health might have weakened. Therefore, the search for the man was continued both on Sunday and on Monday from the morning.

This man is the third stray mushroom picker this year. Fortunately, this year all lost seniors returned home safe and sound with the help of police officers.

Have your phone with you

Police officers advise those going into the forest to look for goodies not to forget to take a charged mobile phone with them, to take care of food supplies – to have water and snacks.

Residents are also encouraged to remember and pick up a whistle and wear brighter clothing to be more visible. And, of course, always tell your loved ones about the plans to pick berries, mushrooms and the exact places where you are going to go.

If you get lost in the forest or thickets, you are encouraged not to panic and call 112 immediately.
