In Senegal, President Macky Sall “acknowledged” the decision of the Constitutional Council canceling the postponement of the election. He “intends to fully enforce this decision”. After this rebound, civil society is still maintaining the pressure and organized an authorized march this Saturday, February 17.

For the moment, a good hundred people are gathering at the Sipres roundabout in Dakar, with flags of Senegal and also t-shirts marked: “Aar Sunu Elections”, which means: “Let’s protect our election. »

At the microphone, a manager recalls the process: it is a peaceful and silent march, a march supervised by the gendarmes, authorized until in principle 1 p.m., universal time, over a fairly short route, approximately 15 or 20 minutes of walk.

It was authorized, unlike all previous mobilizations which were prohibited by the prefecture, in particular on the grounds of “risk of disturbances to public order”, which had resulted in sometimes deadly clashes between demonstrators and forces. of the order.

For the Aar Sunu Elections collective, it is really about maintaining pressure to respect the electoral calendar, for an election before April 2, the expiry date of the president’s mandate.

“We remain vigilant, the fight is not over,” said a representative of the platform. On Friday, a group of civil society organizations put forward two possible dates to be within the deadlines provided for by the Constitution for an election: it would be either March 3 or March 10 for the first round, knowing that already officials Those close to the president said it would not technically be possible.

Many are now waiting for a new message to the nation from President Macky Sall that can set a date for the election.
