A memorial service in memory of Tsar Boris III was celebrated today in the Rila Monastery. The service was performed by the abbot of the Rila monastery, Bishop Evlogius of Adrianople, Bishop Hieroteus of Agatopol, and the monastic brotherhood of the monastery. Today marks the 81st anniversary of the death of Tsar Boris III. The memorial service was not attended by representatives of the royal family, BTA points out.

On August 28, the day of the death of Tsar Boris III, the brotherhood of the Rila Holy Monastery, led by their abbot, hold a memorial service every year in the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Virgin.

Tsar Boris III was buried in the Rila Monastery, but in 1944 his body was exhumed by order of the state authorities. Today, only the glass with his heart is preserved, which is buried in his restored grave in the southern chapel of the cathedral of the Rila Monastery.

There were hundreds of guests in the Rila Holy Monastery even today, even though it was a weekday. On August 28, according to the old style, the church celebrates the Great Virgin or the Assumption, said the church at the monastery.
