A minute of silence will be observed before all football matches this weekend in Italy in tribute to the victims of the downpours that fell overnight from Thursday to Friday in the Marche region, the Federation announced.

The deluge, which caused a sudden rise in water, left at least ten dead and four missing in this region of the center of the country.

“On the occasion of all the matches of the football championships scheduled for this weekend, a minute of meditation will be observed to honor the memory of the victims”said the Italian Federation in a press release.

“We are a community in joys as in sorrows, this is why the minute of silence that we will observe on all the grounds testifies to the closeness and respect towards those who suffer from the drama which fell on the region of Markets»underlined the president Gabriele Gravina, quoted in this press release.

Italy coach Roberto Mancini, from the affected region, also expressed his support on his Instagram account: “Forza Marche (Go the Marches). Great sadness for the victims.”

This tragedy sparked many reactions throughout Italy and put climate change back at the center of political debate one week before the legislative elections.
