After a month in a coma, the victim died – he kicked her in the head while she was defenseless drinking coffee in a restaurant
Intentionally or carelessly, 17-year-old Daniel Petrov killed a 56-year-old disabled woman in Pernik. This will be decided by the prosecutor’s office after the autopsy of the victim on Tuesday, the prosecutor’s office and the Ministry of the Interior announced at a briefing in the mining town. Daniel has admitted to the act, he does not give an explanation. The boy is already 18 years old, but in July, when he beat the defenseless woman in the center of Pernik, he was 17. That is why he will be tried as a minor, explained prosecutor Albena Stoilova. The law stipulates from 5 to 12 years for juvenile perpetrators of hooligan murder, which is one of the possibilities for the development of the case. The other is death by negligence, which is punished even more lightly.
The 56-year-old woman was immobilized after suffering a stroke when she was attacked by Daniel and his friend. After being kicked in the face, she was admitted to hospital with injuries and in a coma. However, the District Attorney’s Office opened an investigation for inflicting moderate bodily harm against the then 17-year-old student. After the victim’s death, the charge will be changed depending on the autopsy.
Daniel Petrov is an old acquaintance of the police and prosecutor’s office in the city despite his tender age.
Three times re-education measures were imposed on him, which had no effect. He was arrested twice for drugs and once for theft. The police in Pernik detained him and sent the materials to the local commission for combating anti-social behavior of minors, which imposed re-educational measures. He was kept accountable in the Children’s Pedagogical Room.
The fourth and most serious crime is the attack on the 56-year-old woman. She suffers a stroke shortly before Daniel beats her up. Every morning she drank coffee in the establishment where the brutal scene of violence took place. It was the same on the night of July 29. Daniel and his friend first passed another store. There, an acquaintance of theirs told them: “Be careful, this one is mentally ill. He broke my car mirror some time ago.” He also showed them a clip. There is no evidence that the woman has a mental illness.
Immediately after this conversation, the young man – dressed in black clothes, goes to her and talks to her. He asks her: “How are you going to drink coffee here?”. At that moment, his friend Daniel also appears. A security camera clip shared on social media shows him he starts hitting her on the head without saying a word. She falls back with the chair, and he kicks her in the head and body again. The brutal beating lasts 15 seconds.
According to the investigators, it was a beating for hooligan motives, there is no reason for the aggression. There is no evidence for the other boy and no complicity in the crime is established.
The victim’s nephew told the media in Pernik that his aunt was disabled after a stroke and the boys planned to kill her.
“They had some kind of conflict, my aunt broke some kind of mirror,” said Boris Vasilev.
According to the sister of the deceased, everything about her was destroyed, and her brain did not function. After the beating, she only managed to explain that she knew one of her attackers.
