The Syrian Ministry of Interior said in a statement: “The Harasta Police Station, affiliated with the Douma District Directorate in the Damascus countryside, was informed by Harasta Hospital that a one-year-old girl named Amal had entered the hospital and died after her mother treated her and claimed that she had died as a result of an electric shock in her family’s home in the town of Madyarah.”

She also confessed that she had been separated from her husband for a short time and that she killed the child because her husband kept demanding her and she wanted to deprive him of the child and because he had divorced her.”
The ministry’s statement added: “Investigations are still ongoing with her and she will be referred to the competent judiciary in accordance with the rules.”
