/ A Ukrainian thermal drone captured images of a strange and mysterious object, which it shared with the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, and which aroused the “curiosity” of the Ukrainian battalion responsible for monitoring. Meanwhile, the captured images revived talk about the similarity between this object and another known as the “Baghdad Phantom”, which was spotted by American forces over the Iraqi capital 22 years ago.
The camera of the Ukrainian 406th Battalion’s drone captured the strange object from one of more than 300 thermal vision drones used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in their efforts to defend themselves in the context of the war raging with Russia for two years.
During the monitoring process, the battalion members said: “What is this? Why is it not moving? A mysterious object. Zoom in more.”
The unidentified object bears a striking resemblance to the “Baghdad Phantom,” a cylindrical object spotted over Iraq in May 2022 by an infrared camera on a U.S. Air Force drone.
Some online observers said the image was a case of the mirage phenomenon known as “Fata Morgana,” the name of an Italian myth.
Fata Morgana is an optical phenomenon classified as a type of mirage, which is seen in a narrow strip above the horizon. This mirage phenomenon causes a distortion in the shape of the observed objects, making it difficult to distinguish them.
Fata Morgana mirages can be observed at sea or on land, are rapidly changing, and make objects appear compressed or stretched.
The phenomenon of unidentified flying objects occupies researchers and scientists, and last year NASA announced the launch of an independent investigation, led by a group of prominent scientists and aviation experts, on the subject.
The term “UFOs” was replaced with “unidentified anomalous phenomena”, in an attempt to remove the stigma from a subject widely associated with speculation about alien visits to our planet.
