A Nahariya resident hit another resident with a stick

The Haifa District Court this evening (Thursday) rejected the appeal filed by the police against the Magistrate’s Court’s decision to release a Nahariya resident, who is suspected of assaulting another person with a stick. The court accepted the position of the suspect’s attorney, Adv. Adi Peshko Katz, according to which “the story that the police built around the incident is not true, and that the suspect is Ukrainian, not Russian, and the victim is from Uzbekistan. “Beyond that, in fact the filing of the plaintiff’s statement does not leave the suspect in custody and he is sent to alternative house arrest under restrictive conditions.”

As stated, according to the police report, about a week ago an investigation was opened after a report was received regarding the assault of a native of Ukraine by a resident of Nahariya. The investigation revealed that between the suspect, a 56-year-old Nahariya resident, and the victim, there was a lawsuit that apparently touched on the war in Ukraine, after which the suspect returned home, brought a stick, attacked the victim with it and caused a cut to his head. Nahariya police officers arrested the suspect for questioning at the city police station.

“Unfortunately, the spokeswoman circulated an unrealistic message in an attempt to paint the case against a nationalist background,” said Advocate Peshko Katz. At this stage, we will not respond to the suspicions themselves, as the case will be clarified within the walls of the court, “she added.

Advocate Peshko Katz concluded: “What is important is that now the suspect has returned to his family, while the court accepted our claim that it is not necessary to keep him in custody, even though a prosecutor’s statement was submitted.”
