It’s an allergy sufferer’s nightmare: the birch pollen season starts this Sunday in the northern half of France. A risk that the Ile-de-France region intends to anticipate in the future, with the creation of a “Pollens Alert” network.
The gray case of the Aerotape dominates the roof of the modern Ile-de-France Regional Council building in the heart of Saint-Ouen. ” This sensor identifies all particles from 1 to 100 microns : pollens are part of it says Roland Sarda-Estève, research engineer at the CEA. This device – patented by the CNRS and the CEA and marketed by Oberon Sciences – is the first of a whole monitoring network that the Region wants to set up from next year. ” The objective is to inform Ile-de-France residents as quickly as possible when episodes of high concentrations of pollen in the air occur, explained Olivier Blond, environmental health delegate for the IDF Region, during the presentation on March 21 of new measures to promote air quality in the Ile-de-France region .
Ten sensors will thus be installed in two years on cleared sites in order to obtain a representative map of the spread of pollen throughout Ile-de-France…
