Inaugurated with the collective exhibition «La Profezia» (until 24 February) the new reality that allows the works of the 54 Collection to dialogue with those of emerging artists

From passion to passion. Nashira Gallery was born in Milan, in via Vincenzo Monti 21, from a (new) idea of a gallery capable of creating a constructive/creative dialogue between the works of an important private art collection, the 54 Collection, and those of promising young contemporary art. The idea is to a dynamic exchange between different cultures, generations and expressive techniques brought together under the sign of art and collecting, a collecting (and a passion) that unites different generations, parents and children. “I’ve always lived art,” he explains Ludovica Bifulco — like something everyday because my parents have always collected it… I just looked for a new perspective, comparing the work of a great master from the family collection with those of young people that I have chosen».

The first exhibition, which has just been inaugurated, thus has the title The prophecy and was born as a direct derivation of the video work Waiting for the Sibyll from William Kentridge, the South African artist currently the protagonist of a major retrospective at the Royal Academy in London, a work that comes from the family collection, compared with the creations of three African artists (Mafafo Kimathi, Teresa Kutala Firmino, Wim Botha) and two young Italians (Andrea Grotto, Andreas Zampella) for «a unique symphony of which Kentridge’s video and the works of the other five artists are the polyphonic voices».

The idea was to «give life to a welcoming space, familiar and open to all, where in addition to admiring and getting to know the beauty of art up close, one can feel at home and get to know new emerging artists who, for the occasion, they will be held by the hand by the greats», underlines the gallerist. The name “Nashira” comes from, among other things, a star in the constellation Capricornus, guide sign of the tunnel, the meaning of which in Arabic is «bearer of good news». What kind of art will there be? «Contemporary art in all its possibilities and in all its forms. There won’t be a favorite medium and the gallery will from time to time be dedicated to pictorial works, sculptures, works on paper, photos, installations, video art, digital art, up to crypto art».

Until February 24, artists of different generations will thus meet ideally (but also physically) «face to face»: William Kentridge (Johannesburg, 1955), Wim Botha (Pretoria, 1974), Teresa Kutala Firmino (Pomfret, 1993) and Mafafo Kimathi (Kimberly, 1984), the Italians Andrea Grotto (Schio, 1989) and Andreas Zampella (Salerno, 1989) in an installation that aims to ideally decompose Kentridge’s work in the works of other artists to create something new and different : The green curtain di Zampella, The Sybil of Kimathi and, again, The prophecies di Grotto accompany the visitor on an immersive journey towards the vision and captivating atmospheres of the South African master. Further confirmation of how from Homer to Michelangelo, right up to Kentridge, the figure of the Sibyl (also mentioned by Dante) has crossed the time of men and that of art. A Sibyl with infinite interpretations, portrayed here in an interpenetration of words and images, which is clearly inspired by Progress (1968), the only theatrical work created by Alexander Calder (1898-1976), the American sculptor known for the large kinetic art sculptures called Mobiles.

But given that «Nashira Gallery» was not born as a simple exhibition gallery, but as a dynamic place with an eye always turned to the future and to the contemporary, during the three months in which the Prophecy will remain open, the gallery spaces will host a sequence of special project themed “to deepen even in an unexpected way – Ludovica Bifulco anticipates – the figure of the prophet to arrive at the identification of his contemporary equivalent and to answer the question of who are the prophets of today”. Already In the meantime, the next projects are also ready: at the end of the collective two personal exhibitions and projects site specific dedicated to Andreas Zampella and Andrea Grotto.
