The former full-back of Novara, Cagliari, Bologna and Lecce, Paolo Faragò retired from playing football at just 30 years old. The defender born in 1993 therefore left Como (the team he joined in 2022) and he hung up his boots due to the many injuries that have affected his performance in the last 4 years. His career, in which he has made more than 100 appearances in Serie A and 132 in Serie B, he therefore ends early because his physique has said enough. This was announced by the footballer himself, of Calabrian origin but raised in Piedmont with a touching post published on his Instagram profile.

And now, what do I have left? Perhaps this is the greatest feeling of emptiness, the idea of putting aside in an instant what has kept me company every day for 30 years. Realizing that I will no longer feel the embrace of my teammates, the scream of a full stadium, the sound of cleats in the tunnel before entering the pitch, the anger at an undeserved defeat and the joy of a last-second victory – Faragò writes, effectively explaining his decision to retire from playing football at just 30 years of age –. This was my lifeblood, it nourished me and made me face exciting times and dark moments, it made me fight with injuries and physical problems, it always gave me the certainty that an alternative path could be followed.

Over the last 4 years, little by little, my opponent no longer had a different shirt, but had become my body. I did everything to fight him, but nothing, he won – continues the now former footballer –. Dozens of visits, infiltrations, surgeries, but unfortunately it forced me to give up. I would have liked to play a little more, at 30 I would have expected to be in the prime of my careerIt is true, but how can I be sad when I think about how much wonder I have experienced in these years? Thanks to those I met on this journey, to those who accompanied me for a day or for many years. I don’t know if it was the best experience of my life, but I know I have realized the dream of that child who wanted nothing more than to kick a ball.
This is what I have left“.

Chiellini will have a role of his own at Los Angeles FC: thus begins his new adventure in football

And it is Paolo Faragò himself who reveals what will he do after hanging up his boots so soon: “Not a new challenge awaits me, with the same enthusiasm and passion, but in a new field, aware that I will finally be allowed to dig as many times as I want” he in fact comments in his touching message by adding the emoji of a glass of red wine which leaves no room for doubt. The former footballer will in fact leave Como and he will return to live in Cagliari (where he played for five seasons between 2017 and 2022) and will take care of his winery “Tenute Faragò”, the winery founded in Sardinia in 2021 together with two friends.
