A new mural honoring Bonnie Tyler was unveiled in the singer’s hometown of Skewen, Wales, early in November 2026. The artwork, located at the memorial hall in Skewen Memorial Park, serves as a tribute to the late artist who died in July 2026 at age 75.
Artist Steve Jenkins Paints Mural Featuring Local Park Backdrop
Artist Steve Jenkins, known as Jenks Art, spent five days painting the mural after being commissioned by the Coedffranc Town Council. The design features a large portrait of Tyler, with the background depicting Skewen Park, a choice Jenkins made to highlight the singer’s connection to her roots. The artist noted that the project evolved through several mock-ups before settling on the park as the backdrop, reflecting the pride Tyler held for her hometown.
The portrait itself uses a two-tone technique. Jenkins explained that the black-and-white side of the face acknowledges the piece as a memorial, while the colorful side signifies that her music will continue to live on. The mural also includes an emblem of the local rugby club. Jenkins expressed that capturing the singer’s likeness came with a huge responsibility
given the emotions the community felt regarding her passing. I knew that I had to get it really accurate because of the emotions tied with Bonnie,
Jenkins said. The pressure was on.

Fans Mourn Singer at Celebration of Life Service
The tribute follows a period of public mourning in the region. On August 17, 2026, a celebration of life service was held at Swansea Minster, where fans lined the streets to applaud as her white coffin—etched with a microphone and a treble clef—was carried inside. Residents of Skewen have described the mural as a significant addition to the park, noting that Tyler remained deeply connected to the area throughout her global career.
Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, rose to international prominence following the release of her 1977 album, The World Starts Tonight, and its singles “Lost in France” and More Than a Lover.
Her 1977 single It’s a Heartache
reached number four on the UK Singles Chart and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. During the 1980s, she transitioned into rock music under the guidance of songwriter and producer Jim Steinman. Steinman wrote the hit Total Eclipse of the Heart,
the lead single from Tyler’s 1983 UK chart-topping album Faster Than the Speed of Night, as well as the track Holding Out for a Hero,
while If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)
was produced by Steinman.

As the community remembers her, a final studio recording titled Love, Light and Peace is scheduled for release on November 13, 2026. The track was written by Chrissie Hammond and Terry Britten and produced by Britten and David Mackay, who both collaborated with Tyler during the early stages of her career.
Vandals Target Newly Unveiled Mural with Eggs
Shortly after its unveiling, the mural was targeted by vandals. The Coedffranc Town Council reported that a group of youths was filmed throwing eggs at the artwork and kicking doors at the memorial hall while people were inside. The council described the act as a disappointment, emphasizing that the park and hall are spaces for everyone to enjoy.

South Wales Police are currently investigating the incident as potential anti-social behavior. In a statement, the council urged the public to avoid speculation or the sharing of footage on social media to prevent interfering with the ongoing inquiry. The mural has since been cleaned, and the council expressed gratitude to the community for its continued support.
