Hitting a six on the cricket field has now become as easy as eating dal and rice. A bunch of sixes are like small bullets. This time in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) the world saw the record of the highest number of sixes in one match. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Guyana Amazon Warriors hit 42 sixes in the match, joint-highest in recognized T20Is.

A new record in the storm of sixes in the CPL

If there was another six, this match would have been recorded as the highest number of sixes. Since that is not the case, CPL has jointly held the highest sixes record with IPL. In this year’s IPL, there were 42 sixes in the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings.

It may not be wrong to mention the year 2024 as the year of sixes. Because the first four matches to record the highest number of sixes in recognized cricket took place this year. In this again the second highest 38 sixes has been twice. That happened in IPL.

Shimran Hetmyer hit the highest six in the match of 42 sixes between St. Kitts and Guyana in CPL Bangladesh time this morning. This Guyanese batsman hit 11 sixes on his way to 91 runs off 39 balls, there were no fours in the innings. Hetmyer is the first batsman in the history of T20 cricket to hit 10 or more sixes in an innings without four. Guyana hit 23 sixes in all.

Hetmyer’s innings made Guyana score 266 runs. Chasing the target, St. Kitts also stormed. In the end they were all out for 226 runs. Reigning champions Guyana won the six-festival match by 40 runs and moved up to second in the points table. St. Kitts batsmen hit 19 sixes, including 9 by Andre Fletcher.
