Ten days after learning that Alcalá Subastas de Madrid will put up for sale on the 23rd a painting by Goya, ‘Appearance of the Virgin of Pilar to the apostle Santiago and his disciples’, with a starting price of 2 million euros, ABC has confirmed that another religious painting by the Aragonese master will appear this summer in the Madrid market. Is about ‘Baptism of Christ’ (ca. 1774), an oil on canvas (45 by 39 centimeters), which will go on sale at Abalarte Subastas in the capital on July 6. Its starting price: 2.5 million. It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and unexportable in 2019 “as it is a work unanimously considered by Goya, of great technical and expressive quality and in an excellent state of conservation.”
