Fraudsters have come up with a new scheme to deceive drivers: they catch up with people along the way, make it clear that something is wrong with the car with signals, gestures and shouts, and then offer their help for money. This was announced on his Facebook page by the deputy head of the Center for Traffic Organization (TSODD) of the Moscow government – the head of the Situation Center Alexander Evsin.
If the driver reacts to the fraudster and stops, the latter convinces the victim that there are any problems, for example, smoke under the hood or oil leaks. Sometimes, in order for a person to believe him for sure, an attacker throws a “smoke box” under the car. After opening the hood, the fraudster splashes oil on the manifold and the engine really starts to smoke.
“The following is a recipe for salvation. Here it depends on the ability to pay and the degree of credulity. Some of them can be “poured” with oil, which allegedly has leaked out. They will not fill in anything, but, since there is oil in the engine anyway, they will simply depict the “filling” for the cost of the “topped up” oil. So you can lose from 5,000 to 10,000, ”Yevsin said.
At the same time, the deputy head of the TsODD warned that in the case of gullible drivers, scammers can go even further: for example, take the car to the “underservice”, where they will find problems in the engine. In this case, there is a risk of losing hundreds of thousands of rubles, the official summed up.
Yevsin noted that such situations occur not only in Moscow, but women of age are more often chosen as victims on the basis of “a lack of understanding of the engine’s operation, anxiety and suggestibility”. The representative of the TsODD recommended avoiding such “help” and, if you suspect that something is wrong with the car, go to the “normal service”. You can also take a picture of the intruder, call the police or close people to get the fraudster to get behind.
