Ahead of February 11, the day when the late Pope Benedict XVI abdicated his leadership, three segments of audio recordings of his interviews have been released for public use on the Vatican website.

On February 11, 2013, a new audio series called “Il pastore Benedetto” (Pastor Benedict) has been launched by Vatican Radio to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the abdication of the late former Pope Benedict XVI, who announced his decision to abdicate in Latin before the cardinals gathered in the Vatican’s Consistory Chamber.

A great theologian, a humble minister, and a loving man, Pope Benedict XVI changed the history of the Church through his ministry. A descendant of the Apostle Peter, he led the church well. This video highlights the work that former Pope Benedict XVI has done in recent years through interviews and contributions to relive the moments when he renounced his leadership with inner freedom.

The audio includes notes from his secretary, Cardinal Georg Gänswein, who was with Pope Benedict XVI during his final hours, Ansa journalist Giovanna Chirri and Elio Guerriero, who chronicled the pope’s life, and Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, who gave spiritual training comments to the cardinals on the day he announced his abdication.
