It all started with a trash fire. It was 2 a.m. this Saturday when the police and firefighters arrived in the heart of the Kennedy district in Crépy-en-Valois (Oise). Quickly, a dozen young people positioned themselves around them. The firefighters manage to put out the fire. The gendarmes of the local brigade and the municipal police officers secure the intervention. But the situation is getting out of hand. The individuals, faces concealed and dressed in black, then throw projectiles in the direction of the municipal police car. The stoning caused no damage or injuries, but the author was arrested. He is 21 years old. He lives in Crépy-en-Valois, but not in the city.

In retaliation for this arrest, the gendarmes think, a second fire is started an hour later at the same place between buildings 15 and 17. It is 3 am. The young people are still there but quickly disperse when the police arrive.

A neighborhood that remained calm during the riots linked to the death of Nahel

The last fire of the evening will take place at 4 am. It is this time the car of one of the inhabitants of the district which is on fire, a Renault Mégane. Individuals are still loyal to the position, but more vindictive. They heavily invective firefighters, gendarmes and municipal police. The night of violence and tensions will end with this last fire.

The gendarmes do not know for the moment what set fire to the powder in the Kennedy city and hope to have some elements of answers by the person in custody and the investigations which must be carried out during the day. The district had, in fact, remained calm when violence and damage to businesses had spread in the sensitive districts of the department after the death of Nahel at the start of the summer.
