A nine-year-old boy was bitten by a bear. An elder of the house then shot and killed the bear. The incident took place in Alaska. The child was seriously injured in the attack at Palmer Hay Flats on Tuesday. Alaska State Troopers said in a statement that the elderly man in the home also suffered minor injuries.

Alaskan troopers and state Department of Fish and Game staff arrived at the scene Wednesday to find the bear’s remains and examine the body. Alaska Department of Fish and Game Regional Management Coordinator Todd Rinaldi of Anchorage told the Daily News that officials hope to find out what prompted the bear to attack the boy.
