Tragedy in the Negev: A one-and-a-half-year-old toddler was rushed today (Friday) to Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva during resuscitation operations, but was forced to be pronounced dead there. Police have begun investigating the circumstances of the toddler’s death, scattering a juniper in the Negev.

At 16:50, the report of the case was received at MDA’s 101 hotline in the Negev region, about an unconscious toddler who was brought in a private vehicle to join MDA staff at the entrance to Arad. MDA medics and paramedics treated him and evacuated him to Soroka Hospital in a critical condition with multiple systemic injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

MDA paramedic Amiram Mualem said: “The toddler was brought to us in a private vehicle while he was unconscious, with no pulse and no breathing. He suffered a very severe multi-system injury and we immediately transferred him to an intensive care unit. During the evacuation to the hospital, we provided him with medical treatment that included stopping bleeding and performed resuscitation operations on him. “

According to data from the organization Before Child Safety, this is the seventh case since the beginning of 2022 in which a child from Bedouin society was killed in injuries. To date, in this year, children in Bedouin society account for 35% of all deaths from injuries.

Orly Silvinger, CEO of the organization Before Child Safety: “We have consistently seen over the years that children in Bedouin society are at the highest risk of being harmed in relation to all Israeli children. The reasons for this are a combination of difficult living conditions, unsafe infrastructure and insufficient awareness. In recent years, the organization Betrem, together with partners from the government and civil society, has been working hard in the Bedouin society to raise awareness, but there is still a long way to go. I call on the state to invest dedicated budgets for child safety in Bedouin society, and to adopt active projects that show proven success indicators. “
