The painting, an oil on canvas, offered for sale pays tribute to a homeless man well known to Luxembourgers.

Adalbert (Albert) Boros, born May 18, 1931 in Hungary was an engineer who worked on various buildings and infrastructures, including the Red Bridge, completed in 1966. According to urban legend, his wife committed suicide by jumping from “his” bridge. This desperate gesture pushed him to withdraw from society and to live as early as the 70s, as a homeless person near the central station. He was very good at math and liked to help students with their homework in exchange for food. He died on April 26, 2013 in Echternach at the age of 82.

By combining the artistic world and the world of the homeless, Raphael Tanios wishes to support people affected by precariousness. The proceeds from the sale of his painting will make it possible to finance part of the salaries of 12 people hired within the Stëmm vun der Strooss. As part of its reintegration program for the long-term unemployed, cooks, production assistants, drivers and secretaries bring their know-how to the eight sites of the association, explains a press release from the ASBL.

“It’s a great opportunity to pay tribute to an extraordinary and respected person like Albert and to highlight the local artistic scene, while supporting the Stëmm”, declared Alexandra Oxacelay, director of the Stëmm, launching a appeal to every art lover, philanthropist, municipality or company who wishes to support both a young local artist and disadvantaged people.
