Justine Triet’s film, “Anatomie d’une chute” was partly shot in the Maurienne valley in Savoie. A pride for the region and in particular for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinéma which co-produced the film.

Palme d’or at the Cannes Film Festival this year, Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet is released in theaters this Wednesday. It tells the story of Sandra, a woman suspected of the murder of her husband, found dead at the foot of their house. This thriller, shot in the snowy mountains of Savoy, depicts the slow erosion of the couple.

Suicide or homicide? The question serves above all as a pretext for a meticulous dissection of the relationship between men and women. “Sandra is a person in control of her life, who does not ask her husband for permission to exist. And in addition she is a writer, she succeeds in life. And since we don’t have enough evidence to accuse him, we’re going to look at his way of life. Finally, the place of the judiciary is also the place where we will bring a morality on human beings, we will judge people on their way of living, and her, she seems to be a little too free for the opposing party“, says Justine Triet, the director of the film.

Filmed more than a year ago in the Maurienne valley, Anatomy of a fall mostly takes place in the chalet in the village of Villarembert (Savoie). An ideal setting for this camera full of grudges and unsaid. “It’s a strange place in the Maurienne valley because it’s both very beautiful and then there’s this slightly disturbing atmosphere. In any case, the place was perfect to tell this story“, explains Swann Arlaud, actor.

In total, around thirty technicians and actors from the region worked on the film. Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinema also co-produced the project to the tune of 270,000 euros. This is the first time in more than 30 years of existence that the structure is betting on a work that wins the Palme d’Or.

It’s true that when we have auteur films, of quality, rewarded and which also meet the public, it’s a bit of the holy grail in our profession and for the region. Justine Triet, we had already accompanied her with her film Sibyl. And for us, it’s really the quintessence of what cinema can be, a modern, young, women’s cinema, so for us it’s an important film.“, insists Grégory Faes, director of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Cinéma. Between the seven awards won at the Césars by The night of 12also filmed in Maurienne, and the Palme d’Or with Anatomy of a fallthe year was rich for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinéma.
