“I would not like to comment on the internal intricacies of the team,” A. Pečkauskas told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, adding that he is not afraid of receiving criticism from the Head of the Government for his work.

“Those who do nothing are not criticized. Naturally, criticism is one of the tools of democracy to help adapt processes so that they run more efficiently. I have nothing to fear, because I do all the work I undertake sincerely. And if factual errors appear in my work and I experience criticism as a result, it will only allow us to move forward better,” said the new head of the Ministry of Health Protection (SAM).

A. Pečkauskas also noted that the political team should not change in the coming months.

“With the current political team, in which I do not expect any changes, we really have a lot to do in SAM, because the ministry oversees one of the most complex systems – healthcare. (…) Supervising those processes and daily work really requires a lot of attention, which will be given both by me and by my team”, said A. Pečkauskas. Among the priority tasks he named in the coming months are fostering cooperation with medical communities, helping municipalities, treatment facilities and the emergency medical service to implement the latest health care reforms, as well as successfully preparing and submitting the Mandatory Health Insurance budget to the Seimas.

“Balanced composition of costs in 2025 will be determined by how our health care system will function, what service availability we will be able to achieve and how we will be able to shape the availability of medicines”, noted A. Pečkauskas.

ELTA reminds that President Gitanas Nausėda signed a decree on the updated composition of the Government on Monday evening. The head of the country approved the candidacies of two new ministers – Kazios Starkevičius and Aurim Pečkauskas. The latter will still have to take an oath in the Seimas.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė presented the composition of the renewed Government to the President last Friday. The head of the government is changing two members of the cabinet – Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickas and Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis.

The Cabinet of Ministers is formed and reconfirmed after the Government has returned the powers to the newly elected sworn-in President.

As provided by law, ministers are appointed and dismissed by the head of the country on the recommendation of the prime minister.
