Yesterday after 21:00, in Mersrag parish of Talsu region, on the road Tukums – Mersrags – Kolka, a young man born in 2004 hit a pedestrian with a car, who was on the road without reflective elements. The woman died at the scene.
As the State Police notes, so far during the holiday holidays it was possible to avoid traffic accidents with serious consequences, but this was the first accident with a fatality.
Yesterday, accidents with more serious consequences were more often registered in Latgale – eight people were injured in five accidents there. One more victim was registered in road traffic accidents in Riga region and Kurzeme.
Yesterday, the police arrested 20 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.
On the other hand, 171 protocols were drawn up for speeding drivers yesterday: 32 drivers were fined in the Riga region, 48 in Latgale, 46 in Zemgale, 29 in Vidzeme, and 16 in Kurzeme.
In total, the police issued 446 protocols for violations of traffic rules yesterday.
