On Monday around 7:10 p.m., the police received information that a road traffic accident occurred in Aizkraukles parish – a “Volkswagen” minibus overturned. The passenger of the car was injured in the accident and taken to a medical facility, but the driver of the car died. The VP has started a criminal process for the incident and the exact reasons for the accident are being explained.
During the day, 18 people were injured in road accidents, including nine cyclists, two pedestrians and two drivers of electric scooters.
VP issued 327 protocols for various administrative violations in the field of road traffic, including 162 drivers caught exceeding the permitted driving speed, and two – aggressive driving.
Six car or motorcycle drivers were stopped while driving under the influence of alcohol, and five of them were heavily drunk – the concentration of alcohol in the body of these persons exceeded 1.5 per thousand, for which criminal liability arises.
Regarding two of the heavily intoxicated drivers, a decision was made to confiscate the vehicles, while the other three will have to pay the state an amount of money depending on the value of the vehicle used in the offense.
