As the representative of the VP Madara Šeršniova informed the LETA agency, the police received information yesterday around 11.40 that a traffic accident occurred on the Kandava-Saldus highway in Saldus district, Remte parish.
The man, driving a Yamaha motorcycle, drove off the road and overturned. The driver of the motorcycle died as a result of the accident. The State Police has started a criminal case regarding the incident and the exact reasons for the accident are being explained.
During the day, 16 people were injured in road accidents, including seven cyclists, three drivers of electric scooters and one pedestrian.
VP drew up 471 protocols for various administrative violations in the field of road traffic, including 227 drivers caught exceeding the permitted driving speed, and two – aggressive driving.
Four car or motorcycle drivers were stopped while driving under the influence of alcohol, and all of them were heavily drunk – the concentration of alcohol in the body of these persons exceeded 1.5 per thousand, for which criminal liability arises.
