Watan Al-Youm: The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Nayef Al-Fayez, said on Sunday that the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority is aware that the private sector has an important role in implementing and establishing projects in Aqaba, including various economic sectors.
Al-Fayez indicated, during his participation in the work of the second day of the sessions of the eighth conference of Jordanian businessmen and investors, that Aqaba is a pioneering and successful region in terms of investment plans and the empowerment of the private sector.
Al-Fayez emphasized that the authority believes that partnership is the basis for the success of investments. Therefore, it worked to empower investors through a number of incentives provided by it and the competitiveness in the region, to provide ports, logistical facilities, decision-making mechanism and infrastructure.
He pointed out that the investment indicators in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone are good despite the difficult circumstances that the world is going through, attributing this to the facilities, incentives, the empowerment process, and the existence of trade agreements for the Kingdom that serve the business of exporters.
He explained that Aqaba is a manufacturing and logistical center for launching to foreign markets, in addition to low taxes, especially the income tax, which amounts to 5 percent, in addition to easy access to various countries of the world, whether for goods or investors.
He said that the special obstacle is in the process of updating the comprehensive plan, and it will be ready during the next year in specific projects; Either in direct partnership with the private sector, or as opportunities for the private sector.
He pointed out that there is a plan to redevelop and rehabilitate the Al-Durra crossing in addition to King Hussein Airport, and it will be among the major projects that will be launched in addition to various industrial zones in which the infrastructure has been modernized.
And he indicated that the infrastructure in the Quweira industrial zone will be the first of its kind, and it will be supplied with gas, and there are investors who have worked to reserve plots of land in the city, pointing out that the southern region needs several investments in the tourism sector.
Al-Fayez indicated that investment in Aqaba is open to Jordanian expatriate and foreign investors, in light of the existence of various and comprehensive opportunities available for investment in promising sectors.
It is noteworthy that the conference is organized by the Jordanian Businessmen Association in partnership with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs and Investment, and it will last for two days under the slogan “Investing for the Future in the Centennial of Modernization.”
Jordanian investors residing in Bahrain, UAE, Ukraine, Qatar, China, Turkey, Germany, Kuwait, Oman, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Lebanon, Italy and Iraq are participating in the conference.
