However, the court refused, he had not reformed in prison
A Plovdiv resident serving a 1-year sentence for hitting a patrol car with his drugged-driving car made an unsuccessful attempt to be released on parole. The accident happened around 1:15 p.m. on September 9, 2021. The police car was driving along Vasil Levski Street in the direction of Bulgaria Blvd. and was hit by an Opel Vectra. One of the uniformed was injured, there was extensive damage to both vehicles. The Opel driver’s test showed the use of cannabis. He was taken to hospital, where he refused to give a blood sample. Then he explained in court that he had never taken drugs in his life, but he did not give blood for testing because he was asked for BGN 500. However, his testimony was categorically refuted by the doctors, who repeatedly explained to him that the procedure was completely free. Thus, the driver was convicted and, after serving half of his sentence, applied for early parole.
However, it was rejected by both the District Court and the Court of Appeal in Plovdiv, because there is no evidence that the convicted person has reformed behind bars – he was not sufficiently critical of what happened, at the beginning of his stay in prison he worked, but later began to treat negligent in his duties, the risk of relapse also increased. Thus, he will have to serve his sentence until the end, because the ruling of the second instance is final.
