The Central Library of the Sabail district centralized library system hosted a poetry evening “Elə bil dünəndi ömrün baharı” in honor of the 70th anniversary of the honored artist, holder of the Order of “Sharaf”, poet, prose writer, translator, film playwright Baba Veziroglu, organized by the Main Department of Culture of the city of Baku, Day.Az reports.
The event began with the screening of a video clip reflecting the rich creativity of Baba Veziroglu, which reflected the poet’s valuable thoughts about reading, books and their meaning, voiced by the master of words in verse. At the poetry evening, the hero of the day recited his works to the audience, which were also presented by young people, including musical compositions written to the words of the poet. Baba Veziroglu answered questions from readers and fans of poetry.
Baba Veziroglu was born on January 10, 1954 in the village of Mollaisagly, Ismayilli region. He studied at the Faculty of Journalism of the Azerbaijan State University and the Moscow Literary Institute named after Maxim Gorky. Baba Veziroglu began his literary activity in 1976 with the stories “Bir yaz axşamı”, “Maqazinçi Dadaş”, published in the magazine “Ulduz”. From this period, the writer’s poems and prose were actively published in periodicals and translated into foreign languages. Since 1981, he has been a member of the Azerbaijan Writers Union. In 1988 he was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize. At various periods of his life, Baba Veziroglu worked as an instructor at the Fiction Propaganda Bureau of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, a consultant to the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, the editor-in-chief of the Molla Nasreddin magazine and other publications, the editor of the Mir Interstate Television and Radio Company, and the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijan Cinematographers’ Union. In 1991, he was elected a member of the board of the Azerbaijan Writers Union.
Baba Veziroglu translated many works of Russian classics, songs were written based on more than a thousand of his poems, and a number of compositions are heard in films.
