Police said officers suffered a “violent attack.” The corporation said agents arrested an individual involved in a fight when they were attacked. It was reported that the officers were “punched to the ground with punches.” The corporation said there was a clear risk that officers’ weapons would be stolen during the attack.
A witness told the BBC he saw the fight break out. Amar Minhas was in the arrival area and saw the disagreement. He said police approached two men and said one of them was wanted. The agents then pinned the alleged suspect against the wall. The man who was with him “started attacking the police”, a fight broke out and then the officer kicked the man, according to Amar.
After the confusion, four people were arrested and three police officers were taken to hospital. The men were arrested on suspicion of assault, assault on a first responder, disorderly conduct and obstructing police. Three police officers were taken to hospital for treatment, one with a broken nose.
