Dubai: A police officer was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding luxury car in Dubai. The incident happened in Jebel Ali. Following the injury, the policeman’s leg was amputated. The incident came to light when a 30-year-old woman, who was driving a luxury car, approached the court yesterday seeking a leniency.

According to court documents, the accident happened on March 21. The policeman and another person were hit by a Porsche driven by a woman from the UAE. On the day of the incident, a police patrol vehicle reached the spot after a car broke down in the middle of the road. While the officials were pushing the damaged vehicle to one side of the road, the accident was caused by a Porsche car which reached excessive speed.

The police vehicle was blaring its siren and flashed its lights, but the luxury car rammed into the damaged vehicle at high speed, ignoring it. A police officer who was engaged in official duty was seriously injured. A passenger in the damaged vehicle was also injured.

The road safety expert who investigated the incident testified at the Dubai Traffic Court that the negligence of the woman who was driving the luxury car was the only cause of the accident. The Dubai Traffic Prosecution has registered a case against the woman for endangering life and causing damage to property. At the end of the trial, the court sentenced them to one month in jail and suspended their license for three months.

But as this judgment was in the absence of the woman, she was allowed to retry the case. The woman pleaded guilty to the charges in court and pleaded for mercy. Considering this, the punishment was reduced to 10,000 dirhams instead of the prison sentence.

The court ruled that although the young woman is legally entitled to punishment for the crimes, she is showing mercy and the punishment is reduced to a fine of 10,000 dirhams only. Meanwhile, the prosecution has already filed an appeal against the reduced sentence. It will be heard in a few days.
