A policeman was seriously injured in Jerusalem from a stabbing during an arrest attempt

Police officers from the Lev HaBira station of the Jerusalem district were called this afternoon (Friday) to the Ramot neighborhood in Jerusalem following a report of a rampage by a man who is apparently mentally ill.

The 23-year-old suspect stabbed one of the police officers in his upper body and another female police officer who was with him overpowered the suspect and he was arrested.

The police stated that “when the police officers entered the house, they noticed the damage caused by the suspect on the spot, and the suspect while he was inside his room. After they began to talk to the suspect and approach him in order to calm him down and find out the details of the case, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the police officer in the upper body several times and threw the knife away. The policeman struggled with him, and together with another female policewoman who was with him and pulled out her personal weapon, stepped on it and pointed it at him, they took control of him after handcuffing him to the floor.”

The policeman was taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital in serious condition. Minutes before the start of Shabbat, District Commander Superintendent Doron Turgeman visited the injured policeman at Shaare Tzedek Hospital.
