Huawei has just unveiled its new connected watch, the Watch GT 5 Pro and we were able to get our hands on it exclusively before its release.

Finally

Huawei recently introduced a new watch connected to its Premium, the Watch GT 5 Pro. Designed to succeed the GT 4 or GT 3 Pro, this watch sports an understated design without forgetting to have very good performance. Discover our new Huawei GT 5 Pro.

Design that shows

Launched alongside the GT 5, Huawei’s new Watch GT 5 Pro connected watch has two wrist sizes: 42 and 46 mm. For this clutch, we have a larger model. The latter sports a relatively sober design, but with a frame with more hexagonal shapes than for previous models or the 42 mm version. The result is a very large watch that will fit most large wrists perfectly.

Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro in 46 mm format is available in two colors: silver and black. It is this new feature with which we have equipped this handle and it is clear that the watch is versatile. However, its case is thicker than most traditional watches.

However, the Watch GT 5 Pro’s 46 mm weight didn’t bother us at all. Huawei manages to keep the weight down to 50 g with the bracelet provided in the box. This is approximately 10 g below the weight of the Apple Watch Ultra and this is felt on a daily basis. Watch GT 5 Pro does not weigh our hands, either in daily life or for sports. The Huawei Watch is IP68 certified, which gives it resistance to water and dust.

Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro is equipped with two physical buttons for controls. Top that allows you to access the list of applications installed on the watch in one click. The same button is a gear ring and can be changed to minimize said applications and show their names. It is very useful when you are not used to Huawei logos. Double tapping on the crown allows you to display the most recent navigation applications. The bottom button is dedicated to the app you want. Like the “Action” button on the Apple Watch Ultra, it is possible to put the desired action from several choices based on the applications installed on the Watch GT 5 Pro. For our tests, we put the heart sensor and sleep mode to activate quickly before bed.

A job worthy of your name

Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro is one of the most expensive models of connected clock from Huawei. So we have the right to expect good performances from the latter, especially to stick to its “Pro” name.

We were able to try the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro at rest, but also during various sports activities including cycling, jogging and walking outside. The connected clock has just over 100 types of sports and training with fifteen dedicated to professionals.

We compared the results of the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro with those of the Apple Watch Ultra (first generation) on these different tests. If the comparison turns out to be fairly fair for the two connected watches, the figures for the GT 5 Pro are close to our cycling and treadmill running times, especially in terms of calories burned.

The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro also has an activity history allowing you to set exercise goals for each day. This application, very useful, is nevertheless reminiscent of the activity rings of the Apple Watch by showing calories to lose, exercises and steps to take every day. Meanwhile, the Watch GT 5 Pro has an automatic detection of exercises performed, which saves you the trouble of scrolling through applications to find the exercise you are currently doing. The low point, however: successful goals are sung loudly by the watch, and we will tend to disable this option otherwise we will be noticed quickly by those around us in the gym.

Other health apps are installed by default on the Watch GT 5 Pro. We were able to configure the “sleep” app to track our nights and set our alarms. This makes it easy to analyze our different levels of sleep. This application can be configured according to specific times or with automatic detection of your sleep. The results we observed during our tests seem to be convincing to us and the application is clearly demonstrated when we are asleep or awake. We are also able to take several heart rate measurements at rest or during sports activities to observe changes in the “heart rate” tool.

Regarding social features, the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro is able to respond directly to messages from various applications without having to take out your smartphone. The integrated keyboard will, however, be too complicated to use for large fingers who will definitely continue to use them phone to respond to messages and notifications on social networks. Another flaw is the circular format of the clock which is not very useful for displaying text.

Very strong suspension for proper charging

Huawei is announcing up to 10 days of battery life in typical use and 14 days of maximum battery life for its Watch GT 5 Pro. We were able to try the watch for about twenty days, and we were surprised by its autonomy which exceeded these indications.

Released in 100% freedom on Wednesday August 27, the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro ended up being off more than two weeks later, on Thursday September 12. This brings its freedom to 16 days during which we were able to used in a classic way with a few scattered entertainment moments. A very good score of course, but we regret a little the absence of the “energy saving” mode which can prove useful when we will not be charging nearby, especially on vacation outside.

For charging, the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro comes with a compatible charger in its box upon purchase. The latter allows the connected watch to be fully charged from 0 to 100% in just an hour and a half during our tests. It’s a little long, but it only takes about an hour to get the most out of the battery and the watch’s battery life makes up for it.

The end comes when holding the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro

The new Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro certainly promises to be a very good connected watch. Featuring an attractive design, it has all the features and usability that one would expect from a “Pro” branded watch, especially in performance and performance monitoring.

One of the best aspects of the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro, however, is its freedom. Apple Watch regulars will be very surprised with this watch that is capable of being used for several weeks.

We can, however, complain a little about charging which could have been a little faster, but also its keyboard which is a little small and complicated to use for some users. The latter is also not possible to configure according to your wishes or behaviors in the version available to us.
