The appellate court noted that V. Vainikonis was rightly found guilty by the district court of abuse of official position, falsification of support documents and credit fraud, but he was unreasonably acquitted due to the legalization of criminally acquired assets, and for falsification of support documents, he was given a too lenient punishment – a fine.
The appellate court found V. Vainikonis guilty of legalizing property acquired through criminal means and sentenced him to prison both for this legalization and for forging support documents.
After summarizing the punishments imposed for the four crimes, V. Vainikoniis was sentenced to a final 2-year prison sentence by the judgment of the Court of Appeal (according to the judgment of the District Court, the final punishment was imposed on V. Vainikoniis for three crimes – a fine of 3,766 EUR), partially suspending its execution (immediately 1 year part of the sentence, and the execution of the remaining part of the sentence was postponed for 3 years), as well as from 700 thousand. He made an agreement with a citizen of a foreign country for an unreasonable amount of 3 million. The district court acquitted the then shareholder of Garsų pasaulis UAB Dmitrijos Skoromniks as an accomplice of V. Vainikonis – this part of the district court’s verdict was not changed by the Court of Appeal.
Judgment of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal in criminal case no. 1A-29–1076/2024 enters into force on the day of its adoption, but can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Lithuania within three months from the date of publication.
