A prototype of an elastic display for electronics was created in China

by time news

The Chinese company Royole Technology presented a prototype display capable of bending and stretching at the Display Week Symposium. The novelty is realized using micro-LED technology. According to the company, it is compatible with modern industrial display manufacturing processes.

“Elastic screens not only fold and curl, but can also form three-dimensional arbitrary shapes, including convex and concave deformations,” the company said in a press release.

The developer demonstrated the capabilities of the technology on a test sample – a 2.7-inch panel with a resolution of 96 x 60 pixels. The presented prototype can stretch without breakage by 130% of its original length and withstand a convex bend of up to 40 degrees. The new screens have a density of up to 120 ppi, similar to the displays of modern laptops. They are capable of transmitting up to 70% of the light. Thus, it is possible to use them, for example, in auto glasses and glasses.

The terms of serial production of new screens have not been announced. Royole Technology was the first in the world to mass-produce flexible FFD displays in 2014. In 2018, the manufacturer introduced the first, according to its assurances, a serial smartphone with a folding screen FlexPai. He did not achieve much commercial success and mass popularity.
