On Children’s Day, June 1, a quadruple was born in the maternity hospital of Ida-Tallinn Central Hospital (ITK) – for the second time in this century and in the history of the hospital, four children were born simultaneously in the family, writes BNS.

Three boys and one girl were born on Thursday afternoon and are in the focus of increased attention of doctors at the ITK maternity hospital.

The delivery was taken by a gynecologist, head of the perinatology center, Dr. Ferenc Sirko, who monitored the development of quadruplets throughout the pregnancy. “The children were born prematurely but with good performance, their weight is from 1.4 to 1.8 kg,” said Dr. Sirko.

The children’s mother, Irina, is feeling well, the family is happy about their birth. “Children are healthy, this is the main thing. There are names for three children, only one name for a boy is missing,” Father Gregory said. The family is originally from Ida-Virumaa but lives in Tallinn. Previously, she had two children.

“A big thank you to the ITK Neonatal Unit, the midwives and gynecologists for the excellent collaboration that allows us to help families and newborns as much as possible. This is especially important in multiple pregnancies,” said Sirko, who thanked the team that helped with the pregnancy and childbirth.

The first Estonian quadruple in this century was born in 2017 at the Ida-Tallinn Central Hospital. The parents of today’s quad talked to the parents of Loore, Luise, Leene and Lagle and received support from them.

In 2022, 3,293 babies were born at ITK, including 58 pairs of twins, with no triplets born last year.
