/ The Directorate of Roads and Bridges in Diyala Governorate revealed, on Tuesday, the date for completing the construction of the Hamrin Bridge, northeast of the governorate, which is the largest and longest bridge in Iraq.

Director of Diyala Roads and Bridges, Hani Al-Azzawi, told Shafak News Agency, “The completion rates of the Hamrin Lake Bridge have reached nearly 60%, which is an advanced percentage according to the plan we are following.”

Al-Azzawi added, “The bridge extends to 7 km and passes over Lake Hamrin. It will create a qualitative shift in local transportation between the governorate’s regions and even international transportation extending between Baghdad, Diyala and Iran. It will shorten the distance for pedestrians compared to using other roads.”

He pointed out that “the bridge is being implemented according to international specifications and at a cost of more than 62 billion dinars,” adding, “The plan is to complete the bridge in the middle of next year, but we are trying to complete it and deliver it at the end of this year according to the progress achieved by the work crews.”

The Roads and Bridges Directorate has begun constructing a concrete bridge that will pass over Lake Hamrin and connect Baqubah and Muqdadiyah to Khanaqin and from there to Iran and Kurdistan in mid-2022.
