In Togo, it is the last day this Saturday May 6 of the international congress of radiology of French-speaking black Africa. For three days, more than 300 African radiologists and their European collaborators met in Lomé to discuss several topics, including how to improve medical imaging in Africa. An unmissable event for radiologists.

Victor Adjenou, radiologist at the CHU campus of Lomé and teacher, took part in the three days of the congress. He hopes to learn new practices to make his daily work easier: “ In the various teachings, we focus on the new modalities, namely the scanner, the MRI, the pet scan. The pet scan and the MRI are not fairly common practices in our countries, so we often ask for the expertise of our European partners. »

For him, these three days of work made it possible to emphasize training and also to draw up an observation on the lack of advanced equipment for diagnoses, particularly in regional centers far from the capital. “ It is true that the distribution throughout the territory is not what we would like, but if we take a remote setting, the health institute in the region manages to carry out the diagnosis of a one way or another thanks to the fact that he was able to refer to a bcp center that was closer and well equipped. »

Another factor that complicates the diagnosis of diseases, according to Victor Adjenou, is the reluctance of people to go to hospitals. He therefore also pleads for better education with communities to encourage them to consult in time.
