The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha has displayed on Monday a banner demanding LGTBI rights that will remain hanging on the façade of the institution throughout the week.

Toledo expresses himself with pride and resignation for the LGTBI collective: “Where is the flag?”

The reason for this initiative is to contribute to the visibility and recognition of the LGTBI community and also to send a message of acceptance and respect towards all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It is a symbolic gesture, explained the institution, which represents “support for the fundamental rights of equality and non-discrimination”.

The banner is an action that has been complemented with the request made by the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha to the Toledo City Council for, as in previous years, the façade of the Delegation to be illuminated with rainbow colours, between on June 23 and 28, on the occasion of International LGTBI Pride Day. A request that has not been met by the Consistory that the PP and Vox now govern in a coalition and that this year have also refused to place the LGTBI colors on the municipal balcony.

The Government Delegation regrets that the request has not been met, nor has the façade been allowed to be illuminated this weekend, coinciding with the acts carried out by the LGTBI collective in Toledo.

The government institution recalls that the request for lighting, which has been taken into account in previous years by the Toledo City Council, has been based on the consideration that the institutional lighting of this emblematic building with the representative colors of the rainbow flag is a valuable symbolic gesture to show the city’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and equal rights.
