“Due to the abuses and flagrant violation by his attorney of the rules of court procedure, Mayorga has lost his chance to pursue this case”which nevertheless contains “serious allegations of an extremely personal nature”Judge Jennifer Dorsey wrote in her decision.
The case was dismissed “with prejudice”, effectively preventing the plaintiff from filing a new complaint with another defense team. The incriminated lawyer, Leslie Stovall, had obtained and used confidential communications between Ronaldo’s lawyers, revealed by the “Football Leaks” and dating from the time of the negotiations of the confidentiality agreement between the footballer and the model.
The complainant, now 37, had phoned police after the alleged rape, but refused to identify her attacker. In 2018, in the wake of the #MeToo movement, she asked the Las Vegas police to reopen the case, and named Cristiano Ronaldo as the alleged attacker. In 2019, the justice had closed the criminal case, for lack of evidence.
Ronaldo has always denied the rape accusations, insisting the relationship was entirely consensual – while quickly entering into negotiations to secure an out-of-court settlement. The german magazine The mirror was the first to reveal, in 2017, the existence of this agreement.
