/ The Afghan government announced that the leader of the Taliban movement, Hebatullah Akhundzada, who rarely appears in public places, led Eid al-Fitr prayers today, Wednesday, with the participation of thousands of worshipers in Kandahar, his stronghold in southern Afghanistan, without publishing any picture of him.
Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote, “The Supreme Commander led Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Eid Kah Mosque in Kandahar, in front of thousands of his countrymen.”
An eyewitness said that thousands of worshipers present were unable to see Akhundzadeh due to the very large number of security personnel.
Worshipers were prevented from entering the main building of the mosque, but they were able to pray at the site.
A sermon presented as being by Hibatullah Akhundzada was broadcast over loudspeakers, but the Taliban did not broadcast any pictures of its leader.
