The Polish election is nearing its end, in which, according to the news, many more people are voting than four years ago. By 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, 57.54 percent of those entitled to vote had gone to the polls, which is almost 12 percent more than in the previous parliamentary elections up to that time, MTI reports based on a statement from the Polish National Election Commission (PKW).

In the last vote in 2019, the participation rate was 45.94 percent by 5 p.m., that is, 11.6 percent lower than now. By the time the polling stations closed in 2019, nearly 62 percent of those eligible had voted. This was the highest since the first, partially free elections in 1989, when the participation rate was still 62.7 percent.

Record-high participation is also observed abroad, where more than 600,000 voters have registered.

According to the Hungarian correspondent of the PAP news agency, voters at the Polish embassy in Budapest waited more than two hours to cast their votes.

Voting lasts until 21:00. After that, the main Polish news channels will announce the results of the exit poll conducted among those who left the polling stations. PKW indicated:

the official results of the parliamentary elections are expected to be announced on Tuesday.

It is interesting that, like the upcoming Hungarian election, a referendum will be held at the same time as the voting. The questions are about the migration package of the European Union, the privatization of state assets, the retirement age, and the steel fence erected on the Belarusian border. The referendum will be valid if more than half of those entitled to vote participate in it. The referendum turnout will be published after the polls close.

After a rough campaign, Poland is preparing for a decisive battle

Poland will elect a new parliament on Sunday. In the campaign, the government and the opposition struck a harsher tone than ever before: the leader of the ruling party, which has been in power since 2015, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, and the first man of the opposition, Donald Tusk, both called the other evil. All of Europe is paying attention to the election, Hungary in particular.
