Referring to the years spent forcibly away from the cathedral, there is a void at the two corners of the relief. However, the personality of the teacher István Láng – the path of his life, which was interrupted by the Soviet captivity and dismissal – left a permanent mark in the memory of his students and colleagues.

The teacher was a former teacher at Bethlen Gábor Reformed High School, who died in 1985 at the age of 72, and the Old Reformed Parish of Hódmezővásárhely erected the Church in the school to commemorate the victims of the detachments after the 1956 revolution. A plaque created by the sculptor Sándor Návay was recently unveiled among his relatives, former students, admirers and alumni of Bethlen High School in Vásárhely.
There is an extremely kind face looking down from the bas-relief on the ground floor of the school at the students and teachers passing by. Sándor Návay, a sculptor from Hódmezővásárhely, who was also recognized with the Boldog Gizella Award, told our newspaper: when he made the plans for the work, he found so many old photographs, it was important to feel the personality of the widely known community and beloved teacher through the contemporary photos.

At the ceremony before the inauguration, the school caretaker Ferenc Grezsa spoke to those present about the special situation of the high school teacher. According to him, the image and actions of a good high school teacher can determine the decisions, professional career, and even personality of his students throughout their lives. said Ferenc Grezsa. The priest Csaba Bán emphasized that the memory, teaching and learning of István Láng are also important values for the community of the Reformed Parish of the Old Church of Hódmezővásárhely.
Strong and pure character
