A resident of Bryansk was charged under Part 3 of Art. 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (giving a bribe to an official for knowingly committing illegal actions), the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Bryansk region reported. The woman tried to bribe the investigator for fake documents about the prosecution of her husband in a political case, so that he could obtain asylum in the United States.

As the investigators established, in the afternoon of September 29, the woman handed over 30 thousand rubles to the investigator, who was acting as part of the operational-search measures. For this money, he had to prepare fictitious documents stating that her husband was being prosecuted for committing a crime against the constitutional order and security of Russia. This could help him get preferences when applying for political asylum in the United States.

“Currently the suspect is detained, during interrogation she confessed to the crime. Taking into account the evidence collected at the initial stage of the investigation, she was charged, the investigators are petitioning the court to choose a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest against the accused, ”the ministry said in a statement. Now the woman faces up to eight years in prison and a fine of up to 30 times the amount of the bribe.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden ordered to increase this year the limit on refugees by more than four times: from 15 thousand to 62.5 thousand. Those wishing to obtain asylum were also allowed to apply from their country.
