A resident of Givatayim wrote a sexual tweet about Sara Netanyahu – and was sentenced to a suspended sentence

The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday) convicted Boaz Drori, a 56-year-old resident of Givatayim, who pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal to the offense of sexual harassment, after he published on the social network Twitter insulting content regarding the sexuality of the prime minister’s wife, Sara Netanyahu. Judge Yaron Gat Gezer Drori must serve a two-month suspended sentence as well as pay NIS 800 in compensation to Netanyahu.

Drori admitted and was convicted that during the month of March in 2019 on the Twitter account he managed, under the nickname “drori boaz”, followed by about a thousand surfers, he posted a tweet in which he wrote: “I am such a patriot that I feel a national duty to put Sara Netanyahu on … and then with power Jewish and determinedly Zionist … from behind” (partial content of the tweet).

During the arguments for punishment, the prosecution argued that “the actions attributed to the accused should not be taken lightly. The accused chose to comment on the platform in order to address the complainant with a derogatory and humiliating expression regarding her sexuality. The aforementioned publication was published widely. In today’s reality, platforms are characterized by accessibility and we as a society should not agree to offensive expressions on these platforms.”

The defense attorney stated that the accused regrets that the words were written the way they were written and that he decided not to manage the case, so as not to make it a “media circus” and also out of an understanding of the seriousness of the things. The plea agreement only included an agreement regarding the suspended prison sentence, the indictment was not amended as part of it and the settlement was brought to the attention of the victim of the crime. The case was handled by attorney Or Arber from the cyber department at the State Attorney’s Office.
