A senator in police custody, suspected of having drugged a deputy for sexual assault

The case was handled in flagrante delicto, and the senator’s parliamentary immunity was therefore not lifted. Joël Guerriau, “Les Indépendants” senator from Loire-Atlantique, was arrested at his Parisian home and placed in police custody by the judicial police, according to information from RMC confirmed by AFP. He is suspected of having drugged a parliamentarian without her knowledge in order to abuse her.

The Paris public prosecutor’s office confirmed the placement in police custody of Guerriau for “administering to a person, without their knowledge, a substance likely to impair their discernment or control of their actions to commit rape or sexual assault” , events which allegedly took place during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and for which the victim, “a woman, filed a complaint”.

Searches were carried out at the MP’s home and his Senate office. Ecstasy was allegedly found at his home, according to RMC. The senator was placed in police custody without his parliamentary immunity being lifted, the case being handled in flagrante delicto.
