The speaker of the Iranian parliament threatened today following the intention of European Union countries to include the Revolutionary Guards in the list of terrorist organizations. “We will respond to any move that imposes sanctions or registers the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization,” he warned

The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Kalibaf, threatened today (Sunday) during a speech he gave: “We will respond to any move that imposes sanctions or registers the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization.”

This statement comes in the background of the intention of several countries from the European Union to include the Revolutionary Guards in the list of terrorist organizations. As you remember, last week the wording of the decision was passed by an overwhelming majority and it included the worsening of the sanctions against the regime after several months during which hundreds of citizens demonstrated.

The approved version reads: “We call on the Council and the member states to add the Revolutionary Guards and its subsidiary forces, including the paramilitary Basij militia and the Quds Force, to the European Union’s terrorist list, and to prohibit any economic and financial activity involving businesses and commercial activities related to the Revolutionary Guards.”
